Crisis Leadership

George Washington at Valley ForgeA few years ago I read an article about a school teacher who had a picture on his office wall. A school administrator passing by his office saw the picture and told him that he could not hang it in his school office as it violated the separation between church and state.

After a moment to contemplate the demand, the teacher asked why? The administrator stated the picture was of George Washington in prayer before the battle of Valley Forge. The teacher took an another moment and then stated that George wasn't praying, he was looking for bullets! The wise administrator took his que and stated that if that was the case, the school district did not have any objection to the picture.

This may be an urban legend, but I like it!

  1. Thanks Sandra.. I also checked out your blog and was impressed.. KidsCanDoIt … Love the pumpkin patch.. I don’t think we can do that here in Idaho.. Pumpkins that is.. we’re good at keeping kids busy. Love the Bible on the desk story also.. we are still of one mind. hugs

  2. I love stories like that, and I still love it even if it's an urban legend! I worked for the state and was informed that there could be no "religious artifacts" of any kind in our offices. For over thirty years I kept a Bible on my desk in public view, but no one ever said anything. Love your site and I'll be back again!
