HUNKERIN’ DOWN with a little Tech

When disaster strikes I have a Bug-out bag with clothes, first-aid, food, and my very own toothbrush.  But I can't fit the TV in there and in a bad time I need news. If I'm on the road I have a solar charger for my phone, and I’ll pray the towers stay up long enough for me to get settled.  But if all else fails, once I settle down, I want the news.

There is an old saying (like 6 months old) that "Knowledge trumps gear" meaning that knowing stuff in a bad situation is more important than having stuff.  There's no doubt about that, but it doesn't change my desire for  'stuff' when the lights go out.

When the SHTF (Snafu Hits The Fan) it's going to be the TECH I take with me that keeps me calm in the Chaos. I want news, music and some communication with the outside world… and for that I need gear.  I'm not very techie.. but I have a few handy Tech gadgets for Buggin' Out.

We'll all have our skills handy when there is a need.  Some will go to the Kitchen, some to the log pile and some to the barn but if it's time for hunkered' down it'll be time for making the most of a bad situation?  For all of us, once priorities are met we'll want news. In fact, I'd contend that for our sanity we'll NEED news.  We'll need to know, what happened, when will it be over, where is help and how much of survival is up to us.  Communications will be monitored 24/7 for morsels of news to feed our fear and calm our nerves.

For those morsels I have Satellite TV.  Satellites are in the sky and unless the next disaster knocks the Satellite out of the sky, we’re going to turn on the TV and stick to it until things are right again.

My local carrier is Big Dog, who assures me that if I pay my bill and the sky doesn't fall… with a TV and a little electricity, I'll have my news, and some entertainment to relieve the stress and pass the sleepless hours.
