What Are You Doing While You’re Watching TV?
There’s a new study showing a strange trend. More and more we’re distracted. That shouldn’t surprise us, as 86% of us are among those statistics. But what surprises me is that we’re distracted from everything; from eating and talking and working. We’re distracted at the beach, at the mall or at the Museum. We’re distracted while traveling, while listing to others talk and we’re even distracted while we’re relaxing.
The study shows 86% of us are accessing mobile Internet while we’re watching TV. We’ve come to a time in the world where are minds are going in so many directions we can’t concentrate on just one thing.
I must admit to being among those who are doing two or three things at a time.. I joke that there aren’t enough hours in a day to do only one thing at a time, but in reality my mind is searching to fill-up the empty spaces.
There was a time when we woke-up, dressed, ate some cereal and went to work. While we worked we were completely focused on work, and when we clocked-out we forgot work and focused on dinner, homework and some quiet personal time. Today, that almost sounds like another world, a sane world, where people and thoughts were orderly.
I have NO suggestions, NO brilliant observations or life-changing thoughts… How we return to sanity is anyone’s guess. A start might be to get better programing.. that captures your interest and relaxes you. A little down-time would do us all good. Here’s a suggestion … Better Programing.
